8 Tips to Get you Through the Rest of Winter

Remember a while back I did a sort of inspiring (well I thought it was) post about fun things to do in the city during winter? Well, that was a different kind of winter. That was a semi-cold but it’s okay because it’s holiday season and winter break and it’s so pretty and snow is magical kind of winter. Now months later, it’s still freezing minus the holidays and this is how I feel.

As we get through February and into March it will definitely start to warm up, but for now getting through these next couple of weeks can be a bit hard, especially because all you just want to do is just stay home, eat copious amounts of food and watch Girls. But we can be productive and have fun no matter the weather! And so, I’ve come up with a list of my favorite warm indoor activities to keep you occupied until the weather gets a bit nicer, enjoy!

1museums

Visit Museums!

There are so many great museums and gallery exhibits open this month and what better way to escape the cold! And if you visit certain museums on a good day, like The New Museum on a Thursday, admission is also free! Personally, I’m super stoked about the Basquiat exhibition happening at the Gagosian Gallery now through April! MOMA of course is always a best bet and free to all New School students as well!

1cookingclass

Take a Cooking Class!

Taking a cooking class is something fun to do especially with a group of friends! Places such as Brooklyn Kitchen offer cooking classes ranging from sushi and pie classes to their popular homemade pizza class!

1comfortfood

Eat as Much as you Want!

In the event that you’re just totally not into cooking, I have another alternative for you. Eat as much comfort food as you like, because its cold and we’re not going to judge you. For some custom mac n cheese S’Mac in the East Village is a favorite and others on my indulgent list include Pies n Thighs in Brooklyn and Cheekys in the LES.

1poetryslam

Go to an Open-Mic Night or Poetry Slam!

After you’ve eaten yourself into a food coma something that’s also fun are poetry slams! And there are always a ton going on around the city. I know some of you are thinking poetry slams may not really be your style but there are some great ones especially the Nuyorican Poets Cafe which has something going on every friday night!

1spring

 Do Some Spring Cleaning!

As spring approaches it’s time to get rid of the old and in with the new! There’s no better way to do this than by either donating or selling your used clothes. You can sell your clothing to thrift stores such as Beacons Closet and Buffalo Exchange or just donating to the local Goodwill or Salvation Army is helpful as well! Or, if you’re like me, make an Etsy account to bid adieu to your unwanted clothing!

1sleepmore

Catch Up on Sleep!

Did I use this “tip” as a way to sneak in pictures of really cute cats sleeping? Maybe. But, make catching up on sleep this winter a priority! If animals can hibernate why can’t we anyway?

oncampus

Look into Events Here on Campus!

And last but not least take advantage of everything The New School has to offer! From free Group Fitness classes to visiting Lecture Series, The Fusion Fashion Show around the corner and tons of other events and exhibitions happening around campus.

Be sure to use some of these tips and have a happy (or at least try) winter!
