You’ve Finished Your Application… Now What?

February is fast approaching and so are Fall 2013 admission deadlines for Parsons and a bunch of other universities. Thinking back to my college application process, this was certainly an exciting; but also, hectic period. From making sure I met all the requirements, to getting everything in on time and then came the waiting. Oh the waiting…

This admissions process can be stressful and the waiting can be nerve-wracking as well, but it definitely does not have to be! Here are a few simple tips you can do for when you’ve finished your application and you’re wondering what to do next!

First and foremost remember to breathe! You’ve finished your applications and that’s a great victory in itself! Now, you can begin getting to really know the colleges you’ve applied to.

Visit Schools

If you’re able to its definitely a great idea to plan a visit to some or all of the colleges you are applying to. Specifically, here at Parsons we have campus tours all year round which offer a great chance to get a feel of the New School,  separate residence hall tours are also offered. Parsons is also always having symposiums, talks and exhibits and during the spring be sure to look out for Accepted Students Day!

Apply for Scholarships

A lot of scholarship deadlines are approaching as well, so it’s great to get a jump start on these and it will definitely make for a more relaxing spring/summer. Figuring out finances for school is probably the last thing anyone looks forward to, but it is super important not to wait until the last minute to get these things done. If you’re a domestic student don’t forget to fill out your FAFSA and also feel free to contact the New School Student Financial Services for any questions you may have or tips on resources!

Stay Connected

Now more than ever schools are using social media to connect to students. These various tools offer a better chance to get to know the school while also keeping in the loop of what’s going on (and if your reading this your off to a good start). In addition to this WordPress blog Parsons also has a Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr and I feel like I may be forgetting one or two…

Talk to Current Students

Finding a way to pick the brain of current students is a great way to get information on a particular school straight from the source! Don’t hesitate to leave a question you may have about Parsons and campus life in the comment section below and I will do my best to answer them too!

Hope these tips help and remember not to stress! Good luck!

About Lauren

Hey all! I am currently a junior at Parsons in the Integrated Design fashion program. You can usually find me creating or making things, I love a great D.I.Y. Other favorite activities of mine include thrifting, consuming frozen yogurt, dancing and discovering new music!

  1. Parsons was an excellent choice.

  2. Charlie

I am a student from the UK and have been looking into doing an MA at Parsons.
I’ve been looking at the William Street Residence and was just wondering if you could please tell me the difference between ‘rooms’ and ‘open rooms’?

  3. If you are not a domestic student, can you still receive financial aid to help pay for tuition/housing?

    • Morgan Ersery

      Hi Michelle,
All students, domestic and international, are considered for merit based aid at the time they apply, so yes, it is possible to still receive aid if you’re not a domestic student. For more info about Financial Aid, check out the Student Financial Services page here.
