Next Friday marks the first day of winter and with exams being practically donezo I can finally enjoy all the fun wintertime and holiday activities here in New York before I go back home for break. But what’s that you say? All a New York City winter has to offer is bad weather, grumpy people and cabin fever? Wrong. These are a few of my favorite things…
End of the Semester
The stock photo used above most definitely exemplifies how I’m feeling towards the end of the semester; however, this is Parsons so let me just trade those papers for sewing pins, brushes, exacto knives, etc.
And after your done ice skating, grab some hot cocoa! But I’m talking about the real good stuff! There is fancy hot chocolate everywhere in New York my fave is at City Bakery (pictured above). They also have a “Hot Chocolate Festival” sometime in February, say whaaat?
Giving a whole new meaning to window-shopping, but this time it’s actually not as frowned upon! Stores like Barneys, Saks Fifth Ave and Henri Bendel all deck out their window displays during the holiday season and they’re pretty awesome. So go ahead and get your window-shopping on.
SantaCon is an annual gathering of Santa Claus’ spreading mayhem in the streets of New York. Going into the subway and seeing 15 Santas just hanging out is actually pretty funny. It also probably sounds like I made this up but I kid you not it even has its own Wiki page so it’s pretty legit.
As Syd pointed out in an earlier post Holiday Markets are here! Not only in Union Square but Columbus Circle, Bryant Park and even Grand Central. There are also really cool pop-up shops scattered all around New York. Even One-Direction has their own pop-up…
While it shouldn’t be just a seasonal thing to do, winter is an especially great time to volunteer. With Sandy devastating a lot of New York now is the perfect time to lend a helping hand! Check out this site for more ways you can help. Also, Adrien Grenier does it!
