Guess Hu ?! Meet our Alumni – Anna Hu

Do you know Anna Hu? Because you should. The Director of Admission and I had the unique opportunity to meet and speak with this amazing Parsons alumn while in Shanghai this Fall. She’s as humble and generous as she is talented. And she is wonderfully talented.

Anna Hu  was born in Taiwan and studied at Parsons in the early 2000’s. By 2005, she was working at Harry Winston in the jewelry merchandising department. 2007 and 2008 were establishing years for Anna. She founded her ‘ANNA HU Haute Joaillerie’  jewelry brand and opened a private jewelry salon in the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

You may recognize this cuff from the Oscars last year. It was worn by Gwyneth Paltrow.

What sets Anna apart from many other jewelry designers is the personal touch and meaning she puts into every piece. She effortlessly combines Western technique with Eastern influences and aesthetics. Her inspirations stem from contemporary art, classical music, nature and the canon of decorative arts. It’s no surprise that artist and celebrities are particularly drawn to her unique style and respect for the arts. Anna’s pieces have been worn by contemporary artist Cindy Sherman, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow.

I didn’t want to take it off. But they made me anyway.

When asked about her time at Parsons, she mentioned that Parsons was the place that challenged her to be a more creative designer. You can imagine how much we tried to keep our cool and not squeal with glee when Anna let us try on a couple of her masterpieces while visiting her flagship store Shanghai! We look forward to following her long career as she continues to take the luxury world by storm.
