One of my favorite parts about the end of the school year is the Parsons Festival. The festival is a series of events throughout May that showcases student work from different majors/programs at Parsons. The events include gallery exhibitions, critiques, workshops and more!
This year I stopped by the BFA Communication Design, Design & Technology, Illustration & Printmaking senior shows as well as the BFA Photography senior show. It’s always exciting to see what students in other majors are working on, especially upperclassman, and these shows definitely did not disappoint!
The CD, DT, Illustration & Printmaking show were on-campus on the same floor. From top to bottom, student work filled the space throughout multiple rooms. All work displayed was of graduating seniors and consisted of a wide range of mediums. The day I visited the gallery everyone was busy preparing for the opening reception so not all the artwork had been hung yet. Below are some of the student work from the show!
The BFA photography senior show, displayed off campus at the Calumet Gallery, was exciting because it was the first time I’d been to a Parsons Photography show.
Not only were photography prints on display but instillations, video projections, and photo books were also shown throughout the gallery. I especially enjoyed the variety of the type of photography presented from portraits to scenery, landscapes, everyday life and fashion there was a great mix of material.
It was amazing and inspiring to see how much work all the seniors from different programs throughout Parsons put into their final projects and theses. All the work I viewed did not feel like a school project or “student” work; but rather, designs and photography that could easily be seen in advertisements and publications right now.
Going to the events and seeing such amazing work definitely made me excited for my own senior year and the things I will be working on! With that being said, good luck to all the graduating seniors and especially our very own Katie & Charis!
